1. Q: What's the best way to get to San Miguel?
A: The easiest is to fly into the Leon/Guanajuato BJX (also known as Bajio,) International Airport, where we would send a driver to meet your flight and bring you to San Miguel, about 1-1/2 hours away. American and Continental fly there through Texas and several Mexican airlines do also. See the transportation section of the website for more information.
2. Q: What about renting a car?
A: I discourage guests from renting cars here in Mexico for various reasons: it's very expensive, the roads are poorly marked and it's dangerous to drive after dark (livestock in the roads). You don't need a car in San Miguel as it's a small town. It's best to walk or take a cab; drivers are inexpensive to hire for tours or day-trips.
3. Q: What's the weather like?
A: In general, San Miguel has "spring-like" temperatures year-round. However, El Nino (and now La Nina!) have changed the weather patterns a bit. Below is a chart which gives average temperatures (Fahrenheit) and precipitation (inches):

4. Q: What's the rainy season like?
A: During the rainy season (usually June through September), the clouds build up over the mountains in late afternoon and it may rain for a while (usually no more than an hour) and then it clears up and is clean and fresh again. It's not very humid and the rain can be very exciting sometimes with thunder and lightning.
5. Q: What kind of clothes should I bring?
A: San Miguel is a casual place --- but it's not the beach, so leave your short-shorts and halter-tops at home. Bring a hat and sunscreen as the rays can be very strong at this altitude (6,400 feet). It's best to bring clothes that you can layer and remove as it warms up during the day. And most importantly, bring flat, comfortable walking shoes with thick soles. If you want to go to the hot springs, bring a bathing suit. Only one restaurant in town requires a tie and jacket for men.
6. Q: Can I drink the water?
A: At Casa Luna water from our faucets is purified and safe to drink. You can also buy bottles of water from our Starlight Lounge or from the many shops on the streets. Most restaurants serve purified water, but you can always ask for bottled water if you prefer.
7. Q: What about credit cards?
A: Here at Casa Luna we take Visa or MasterCard for your deposit only, and then you pay the balance by cash, personal or traveler's checks when you're here. Some restaurants and large stores take credit cards, but usually prefer cash. There are several money exchange places which will exchange your cash or traveler's checks into pesos. Also, there are a few ATM machines --- but sometimes they run out of cash --- especially on weekends. It's usually best to change money here in Mexico where you'll get a better rate of exchange than in out of Mexico. Our drivers will accept either US dollars or pesos.
8. Q: What can I do about getting my laundry done?
A: There's a laundry just three doors away from Casa Luna where they'll wash and iron your clothes for a slight fee.
9. Q: Do I need an adapter for my hair dryer?
A: We have the same 110 current here. But it's best to unplug appliances when not in use as sometimes there are power surgers.
10. Q: Can I use my laptop at Casa Luna?
A:
Free wireless internet service is available in all Casa Luna
properties for those guests who bring their laptops. Otherwise there are
numerous internet cafes in town.
(We no longer have a computer for guest use.)
11. Q: How can I make long-distance calls?
A: We have a phone service you can use to call the US and Canada for 50 cents per minute. You can also phone us on our Texas roll-over number which rings to the office in San Miguel: 1-210-200-8758. Check with your cell phone service to see if you'll be able to send and receive calls while here in Mexico.
12. Q: What do you serve for breakfast?
A: We serve breakfast family-style at 9 in the morning. We always have fresh fruit, yogurt, juices, and bolillos (breads) plus a typical Mexican hot dish, like huevos rancheros, chilliquillies, mollettes and so on. For those who prefer more "Americanized" breakfast, we have cereal.
13. Q: Can I bring my pet?
A: Fabio a cock-a-poo at Pila Seca; Lola and BonBon, rescue pups at Casa Luna Quebrada; and lots of other animals at Rancho Casa Luna.
14. Q: What about children?
A: Children are welcome to Casa Luna when the entire property is rented to the same party. The house is not "child-proof" so we assume no responsibility for care.
